If you are like me and LOVE to see your favourite colorist coloring - you may have also have felt the urge to make as beautiful cards as them, or may have wanted to color like them. When I would look at them coloring - first thing in my head would be, I don't have the amount of colors they have! Being a Thrifty Crafter, I knew I have to get the most out of my supplies, without breaking my bank.
What if I gave you a cheat sheet to bring your A+ game—without blowing your budget and spending lot of time watching others color? Imagine having a few smart, strategic tips that help you stretch what you already have, amplify your results, and feel like you’ve leveled up—without spending a fortune and time?
Usually, it is preferred that we have 5 colors from one color family, a light -light, a light, a medium, a medium dark and a dark color. When you are starting coloring, you may not have this range - even after coloring for some years, I donot have all the shades in one family. Because I have realised, you can achieve a lot just with minimal supplies. Watch the video to learn how to get the most out of your supplies.
TIPS to Color with Alcohol Markers
1. The Paper Matters, it needs to be Smooth and heavy (200 gsm and above). It can also be specifically made for Alcohol ink coloring.
2. Stamp with an ink that will not bleed - Altenew's Permanent Black is perfect for coloring with Alcohol markers. ALSO you can use Dye inks to stamp with and color with Alcohol markers/Copics after the dye ink is completely dry.
3. Use colored cardstock to your advantage when you donot have range of markers. Using a light colored cardstock for monochrome coloring provides you with the ready made color, which can be used as your highest point or the highlight in your coloring, after that you have to only build your shadows.
4. Use a colorwheel to correctly identify the complimentary color and use it for adding depths and shadows to your work. ( as I used the Firefly color in the Video tutorial)
5. Alcohol markers blend more easily when the ink is still damp, so you don't want to color in too many sections at the same time. If you work on too many areas at once, the ink might dry out, making it harder to blend smoothly.
6. Colorless blender is the magic wand you need!
a. It helps to Lighten a Color. If you apply the Colorless Blender to an area, then add a lighter shade of the same color on top while it's still wet. It will lighten it much more.
b. Make a Lighter Shade. If you apply color of the lightest shade on the tip of the Colorless blender,
it will make a shade lighter than what you have.
c. Creating Soft Transitions. Use the Colorless Blender to push the ink around and soften the edges of the colors. This helps create smooth transitions between different shades.
7. Enhance your highlights, with a White Coloring Pencil.
